Major work begins on the Brussels ring road from this Monday: here is what awaits you

From this Monday, October 7, extensive work will begin on the Brussels ring road near Anderlecht, as announced by Bruxelles Mobilité. This work, which should continue until the end of December, risks causing significant slowdowns, with delays of up to 45 minutes, warned the regional body.

The bridge overlooking Boulevard Sylvain Dupuis in Anderlecht, used by R0 users, must be repaired due to cracks detected in the deck. Since July, the speed on this section has been limited to 50 km/h, and traffic has been reduced to one lane per direction under the bridge. To remedy this situation, Brussels Mobility plans to intervene directly on the ring between October 7 and December 20. This will result in the closure of the inner ring between kilometers 54 and 53, forcing motorists to use the outer ring.

Throughout the duration of the work, traffic will be distributed on the outer ring, where two lanes will be reserved for each direction of traffic, and speed will be reduced. In addition, access to the outer ring via the Chaussée de Ninove ramp will be closed. Drivers will have to use the entrance located on Avenue d’Itterbeek to reach the ring.

These developments risk causing significant traffic jams, especially during rush hours, hence the forecast of an additional travel time of up to 45 minutes. Brussels Mobility therefore recommends that users opt for alternative means of transport or avoid the R0 ring as much as possible.

Note that this work is in addition to that already underway at the Léonard crossroads, carried out by the Flemish Region. Consequently, traffic throughout the Brussels region could be particularly disrupted during this period.

The second phase of work in Anderlecht, which this time will concern the outer ring towards Mons, is planned for the summer of 2025.
