Morocco’s commitment to the Francophonie: Promoting cultural diversity and multilingualism

On this same occasion, the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, highlighted Morocco’s commitment to the values advocated by the OIF, in particular the promotion of cultural diversity and multilingualism. These principles, according to Akhannouch, are at the heart of Moroccan initiatives in education and employability programs for young people, thus helping to shape a more inclusive and competitive future for Moroccan youth.

Morocco, a member of this institution since 1981, has been able to integrate these values into its public policies, and particularly within the framework of its educational reforms. “The Kingdom fully shares the values represented by the OIF, such as cultural diversity and multilingualism, and actively works to promote them through ambitious programs in various areas, including education and employability of young people” , Akhannouch said during a panel organized on the second day of the Summit.

In another intervention, during the round table devoted to innovation and entrepreneurship for youth employment, Akhannouch presented the reforms undertaken by Morocco under the leadership of the Sovereign, particularly in the sector of ‘Education. He recalled that education reform constitutes a national priority for the Kingdom, aiming to meet the needs of Moroccan society and prepare youth for the challenges of the global economy.

Addressing the issue of multilingualism, Akhannouch highlighted its importance for improving the employability of young people. “Language learning plays an essential role in the acquisition of transversal skills that allow our young people to access a broader job market, both nationally and internationally,” he said. Mastery of several languages is seen as a strategic asset to enable young Moroccans to integrate into an increasingly globalized and competitive economy.

The intervention of the head of government also highlighted the central place of digital as a development lever for Moroccan youth. According to Akhannouch, it is essential to integrate the dimension of accessibility to new technologies, because digital technology represents “an important reservoir for creating job opportunities, particularly for young people”.

In this context, the Head of Government presented the recently launched “Maroc Digital 2030” strategy, which constitutes one of the main pillars of the government roadmap for employment. This strategy aims to train 100,000 young people each year by 2026, as well as the creation of 240,000 direct jobs in the digital economy sector.

Akhannouch’s participation in the Francophonie Summit was also marked by bilateral exchanges with high-level leaders. On the sidelines of the Summit, he met with the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, as well as with the Minister of Information of Lebanon, Ziad Makary. These meetings made it possible to strengthen the links of cooperation between Morocco and its French-speaking partners, by emphasizing common issues, in particular those linked to economic development, education and the promotion of the Francophonie.
