7/9 this week! – Genève-Servette Hockey Club

The Eagles aimed to deliver a solid match in Kloten, after the narrow defeat suffered the day before in Ambrì-Piotta. They spent the night in Zurich to avoid traveling on the day of the match, and we can say that it paid off since the Genevans got off to a great start. Teemu Hartikainen opened the scoring while the Garnets were playing in numerical superiority (6th minute). In the process, Jan Cadieux’s men score a second goal… but against their side! The success was attributed to Aaltonen (7th minute). GSHC’s real second goal fell again in powerplay, thanks to Luca Hischier, in the 16th minute. The striker received a masterful pass from Josh Jooris to score in the empty cage. Markus Granlund closed the Eagles festival in this first third with another success in the numerical advantage (18th minute).

The second third saw no goals, and the only real information to remember is the entry into play of Nassim Jaafri in place of Antti Raanta. The Finnish goalkeeper suffered a blow to the head and had to leave the ice. During the third period, the Genevans scored two new goals, once again in powerplay, first by Markus Granlund (47th minute), then by Sakari Manninen (49th minute). The garnet “PP” was formidable this evening at the SWISS Arena with 5 goals in 9 opportunities. Kloten reduced the gap, preventing Nassim Jaafri’s shutout, but no matter, the main thing tonight was the three valuable points pocketed by GSHC.

The Eagles will play this Wednesday at the Littoral ice rink (Neuchâtel) as part of the CHL, against Klagenfurt AC, from 7:45 p.m. They will then play their last away match next Saturday in Bern.
