Matam, Oct 5 (APS) – The governor of the Matam region, Saïd Dia, received on Saturday a batch of 20,000 earth bags which “will be used to form dikes and protect homes and agricultural areas”.
”We received a truckload of 20,000 land bags from businessman Harouna Dia. They will be used to form dikes and protect not only homes, but also cultivated areas,” he said during a meeting with journalists.
The regional executive emphasizes that the donor came to respond to the appeal of the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, inviting “goodwill to support the populations and local authorities”, following the floods caused by the overflow of the Senegal River.
Saïd Dia reiterated the authorities’ call to all nationals of the Matam region to provide support wherever they are.
“We will not underestimate any support whatever its nature, because the populations need it,” launched the regional executive.
Note that several localities in the departments of Matam and Kanel were strongly affected by flood waters, which damaged agricultural areas and flooded villages in Dandé Mayo north and south.
