Sound and listening in the humanitarian world

What place for sound and listening in the humanitarian world? The International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent invites us on a journey through the archives of the ICRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The exhibition invites 10 contemporary artists to examine this question. Among them, Piero Mottola solicited around forty volunteers from Geneva humanitarian circles to create a participatory work. Dana Whabira, for her part, explored the digitized archives of the ICRC and offers an immersive installation on the theme of love. To create the exhibition, it was necessary to explore archives stored on very different media.

In these archives we find interviews, official speeches, direct sound recordings in crisis situations and even songs. A rich material which is found in the exhibition.

Tuning In – Acoustics of emotion also shows us pieces from the museum collection related to sound. The exhibition is on view until August 24, 2025 at the International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
