This long trip to Isère started perfectly since the USOM managed to take the lead at the end of the first quarter, in particular thanks to the contribution of its bench. The Normans continued their momentum and took up to 10 points ahead at the start of the second quarter (19-29).
Then came the air gap. Joelly Belleka’s teammates were struck by lightning for five minutes, where they suffered a scathing 20-0, unable to muzzle the absolutely untenable rear Célia Cardenal (20 points in the first half). An authoritarian three points from Ève Wembanyama allowed the machine to restart and limit the damage at half-time (44-35).
A magnificent but insufficient reaction
The Alpines took control of the match and increased their lead in the heart of the third quarter to take a 23-point lead (61-38). The change in defense hurt us. Ève Wembanyama and Lucile Jérome had great hopes for a sensational comeback which saw them come back to one unit 35 seconds from the final whistle.
Unfortunately, the Iséroises tightened the screw in defense and sealed the fate of this meeting thanks to two converted free throws. I am proud of the reaction. We saw a lot of things that will help us for the rest of the championship. I’m not happy because you can’t be satisfied with a defeat, but happy with the reaction.
We will have to get back on our feet next week with the reception of the other Isère team in the group, Voiron.
