A Strategic Partnership to preserve – Le7tv.ma

In a context marked by the recent decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) to annul the agricultural and fishing agreements between the EU and Morocco, the Italian MEP and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee , Susanna Ceccardi, reacted strongly. As a representative of the League, she expressed her deep disagreement with this judgment and firmly defended the importance of maintaining and strengthening the historic strategic partnership between the European Union and Morocco.

“We do not agree and we evaluate negatively the decision of the European Court of Justice to annul the EU-Morocco agreements on fishing and agriculture”she said. For Ceccardi, the relationship with Morocco should not be compromised by this judicial decision, but rather consolidated. She recalled that Morocco, including the territory of Western Sahara under its jurisdiction, is a crucial and reliable partner for the European Union in the Mediterranean region.

Ceccardi stressed that Morocco represents a pillar of stability and cooperation in this strategic region, and that weakening this partnership would be a serious mistake. “The partnership must be strengthened rather than weakened,” she insisted, calling on the EU to review its position. According to her, the CJEU’s decision should be seen as a “procedural incident” and not as an obstacle to the historic and solid relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the EU.

The MEP strongly hopes that this situation will be overcome quickly and that relations between Morocco and Europe can not only be restored, but also intensified in the months to come. “The League hopes that this sentence is a passing incident, and that collaboration between Morocco and the EU becomes even closer for the benefit of both parties”she concluded.

This strong declaration recalls the importance of cooperation between the European Union and Morocco, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture and fishing, which benefit both economies. For Ceccardi and many other defenders of this strategic relationship, Morocco remains a key player in regional stability, and any decision aimed at calling into question this relationship is not only regrettable, but also counterproductive for the future of cooperation. The support expressed by Susanna Ceccardi reflects a feeling shared by many European officials who see Morocco as a valuable ally and a major economic partner. This position reaffirms the desire of certain MEPs to preserve common interests and continue to build a solid relationship with the Kingdom, despite the legal challenges that may arise.
