It was a long investigation by the Fontainebleau research brigade which led to the arrest of five thieves of cables well-known to the gendarmerie services.

The perpetrators – three adults and two minors – had been active in the south of Seine-et-Marne and in , where they have just been apprehended. The loss for the company is estimated at 82 000 €. The dragnet took place on Tuesday 1is October 2024.

Hundreds of cables cut in Achères-la-Forêt

The starting point of the investigations is located in Achères-la-Forêt. One night last February, the alarm sounded and the military immediately intervened in the village. They find there four open hatches et hundreds of cut cables that the authors did not have time to take away. They fled on board a Citroën C3, abandoning a Mercedes Vitohidden in a wood.

This vehicle was purchased a month earlier under a falsified identitywith a false address and a prepaid phone card. By dint of cross-checking, monitoring and exploitation of video surveillancethe gendarmes manage to trace the criminals, who also committed a theft in Bougligny.

They forced the toll barriers on the A6

It turns out that the two vehicles identified have used numerous times l’A 6 coming from Souppes-sur-Loing. More than 16 speed violations were observed and the thugs strength – 36 times in 4 months – toll barriers from the south of Seine-et-Marnais, as in Ury.

Placed in police custody for criminal association with a view to preparing a crime, they were already accused of cable theft by an organized gang in the Jura.

Convictions

The minors received a summons to appear before the children’s judge of Montargis (45). As for the adults, they were tried in immediate appearance at the Fontainebleau criminal court. They receive 6, 8 and 10 months of suspended prison sentence.
