HAS Dovesvery close to Caen (), 285 people take turns, from 11:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., to operate the ultra-modern platform from the Post Office. Opened a year ago, in October 2023, it is to date the most large platform for receiving and sorting mail and parcels of La Poste in Calvados.
It extends over 9,000 m2 pour an investment of €19 million and inside everything is extremely well established so that packages and mail are properly delivered to individuals, businesses or communities in the department.

Between 200,000 and 400,000 letters processed each day

Romuald Livet is team manager for the distribution of different products: mail, parcels, advertising, press. And for him and his team, the day starts at 4:45 a.m. when the trucks full of mail arrive from the platform. “We collect the small mail which is already sorted and we put it in the different destination corridors. »
In one hour, the trucks are unloaded. Then, between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.other trucks leave with the mail, heading to the various La Poste centers to be picked up by the postmen before their rounds.

In total between 200,000 and 400,000 packages are processed each morning. The platform serves mail and parcels from 120 municipalities up to 30 km around Caen as well as the centers of or Bayeux.

Up to 32,000 packages during peaks

But mail only represents 30% of the platform. Most of it is devoted to parcels. Activity constantly increasing (+ 3%), La Poste had to invest in modern tools to sort always more and faster and remain competitive with other delivery companies, such as DHL which opened a new parcel delivery platform in Fleury-sur-Orne in September.

Thus the new La Poste platform is equipped witha semi-automatic sorter capable of processing up to 2,500 packages per hour. Every day, these are 16,000 packages leaving the warehouse.

The tool can still gain momentum. For the end-of-year peak in November-December, we can increase to 32,000 packages.

The parcel sorting service, previously located in Giberville, took up its functions in March 2024. “We have only been here for six months, but we have managed to get started with this new sorter. Everything is much more mechanized, with fewer sorting errors. It makes the agents’ work easier,” adds Alexandre Anger, in charge of the parcel section.

The grouping of three sites

On this new Colombelles platform, La Poste consolidated its services scattered on different sites. This is the case of the former Colombelles platform, which processed mail from Colombelles and the coast, the Giberville parcel sorting center and the Mondeville industrial mail platform which closed its doors at the end of the year. 2023. Alone the 2,000m platform2 by Verson is still open, its activity focuses on the distribution of advertising prints.
