“What you say is false”: Thomas Dermine cropped live regarding the “Marina” in Charleroi

Today, it is the turn of the potential future mayors of Charleroi to debate “In my commune”. The construction of the future “Marina” has been mentioned and opinions differ.

The “Marina” of Charleroi unleashes passions, in particular between the different mayoral candidates of Charleroi. Gathered on stage for the debate on “In my commune”, they took turns speaking about this project.

I am against the “marina” at the moment. This “marina” has been talked about for ten years and unfortunately, we have just learned from the press that the planning permit has expired after already five years of waiting.“, explains Anthony Dufrane (MR).

This is a project that does not at all meet the needs of the Carolos

The latter wants a “Marina”much lighter“and less expensive:”We can do much less expensive because this “Marina”, which was estimated at ten million euros a few years ago, will cost double and the Carolos deserve a city which now finds a certain peace. You should know that this “Marina” involves digging an arm of the Sambre in the middle of the lower town, and therefore, it’s back for years of work“.

Indeed, for us, it is a project that does not at all meet the needs of the Carolos“, confirms Pauline Boninsegna (PTB). “As I said, today in Charleroi, we went from five swimming pools to one swimming pool for 200,000 inhabitants. (…) Very concretely, that means that these are all children who we don’t know how to go swimming. And so, to choose, I do not invest in a “Marina” which will not benefit the needs of the Carolos“.

Thomas Dermine (PS) is more nuanced. “We imagine Dubai, Monaco… But no. What we do is a nautical relay so that boats can dock because there is a flow towards which is important“, he explains.

Mr. Dufrane’s option of putting pontoons is fanciful, because the best proof is that when we hold events where we need to dock small boats, we are obliged to put all the navigation stopped. However, navigation is essential for barges, particularly in industry“.

“You don’t know the terrain”

Here, I don’t agree at all“, reacts Mr. Dufrane. “Mr. Dermine, do you know the width of the Sambre at Marchienne-au-Pont and Charleroi? The width of the Sambre is exactly the same as in the city center. It’s entirely possible. There are barges which are docked, which let the river transport barges pass. What you are saying is false. You don’t know the terrain“.

I went to the field“, he continues. “The width of the Sambre, at Marchienne-au-Pont, is 28 meters. We know how to put pontoons and boats there. And in Charleroi-Centre Ville, it’s entirely possible. So, go into the field a little, Mr. Dermine“.
