Why this Leclerc hypermarket will have to pay 12,000 euros fine

An administrative fine of 12,000 euros was imposed on a supermarket in Saint-Prix (Val-d’Oise), following an inspection carried out this Tuesday by the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations of Val-d’ Oise (DDPP 95). The cause, among other things, of price display defects on 24 products, reports The Gazette du Val-d’Oise.

“Based on a certain number of errors, we believe that we are faced with a misleading commercial practice,” commented the prefect of the department Philippe Court. It’s a crime. » The objective of these controls is to “protect consumers by participating in the defense of their purchasing power”, added the State representative.

Multiple objectives

In addition to strengthening consumer confidence, verifications make it possible to ensure the origin of products and the application of the Egalim law, supposed to guarantee farmers’ remuneration. Philippe Court explained that checks are organized twice a week in food stores and DIY stores whose names are always communicated for the sake of transparency.
