The Archives invent a clickable map to facilitate your research

We sometimes use the Departmental Archives websites automatically, by always clicking on the same buttons to always consult the same collections. This is how we late discover new sources which may be of interest to our research but which we had not seen, being too locked into our routines.

The Departmental Archives of invite us to take off our blinders and access the resources of their internet portal not by collection but by municipality thanks to a clickable map. For each municipality (former or current), all the links to the deposited archives, the civil status and more generally, everything that the teams were able to index, that is to say identify, are indicated. concerning this municipality.

Click on the territory of a municipality and you will see the details about it displayed in a pop-up window (at the top left of the screen): name, district, link to the municipal archives filed, link to civil status online and link to other sources available on the Archives website, without forgetting an old postcard as an illustration.

Sometimes, on the global map, “ drops » colored are superimposed on the territory of a municipality: they indicate the old municipalities before merger. The colors simply make it easier to distinguish clickable elements and have no particular meaning. If you find the map too small, do not hesitate to use the zoom to better target your searches. In addition, you will notice that the name of each municipality is displayed when you hover over it with your mouse cursor.

And if you are not comfortable with the map because you do not know the geography of Calvados, you can use another form which gives access to the same resources, but from a municipality chosen from a global alphabetical list .
