The Canton launches “Chek”, a media for young adults

The State of Vaud wishes to raise awareness among the young population “of the importance of consulting verified journalistic information and, ultimately, allow them to exercise their political rights with full knowledge of the facts”. This is how he created the new media “Chek”, which aims to offer “local, dynamic, verified and positive news”, in formats adapted for young people. The media was made public this Thursday on a dedicated site, as well as on Instagram, TikTok and Mastodon. It will be supplied by publications proposed by local publishers.

Six Vaud editorial staff took part in the launch of the project: “Le Temps”, “La Feuille d’Avis de la Vallée de Joux”, “Riviera Chablais Hebdo”, “La Côte”, the “Journal de Morges” and “Le Courrier “. Project manager Yoann Goy estimates that in total, a dozen media outlets will take part in the adventure between now and January. “It’s an interesting way to capture a younger audience that is difficult to reach through traditional information channels.”

Although funded by the Canton, “the editorial freedom of the project is guaranteed to each participating media,” assures Yoann Goy. Everything will be “laid out” by the communications agency Spurring, responsible for coordinating editorial management, in conjunction with the editorial staff.
