A swimming pool that allows you to learn to swim, but also to your friends from other communities“, it is in these words and with a smile on our lips that Christophe Mauny, academic director of national education services (Dasen) du Gard, presented certificates of aquatic comfort and swimming skills to CM1-CM2 children at the Meynes municipal swimming pool on Friday September 27.

750 students sensitized per year

The objective being that all intercommunality students attend eight learning sessions, once in CP and a second time in CM2. Children must be able to enter college with this compulsory skill acquired“, explain the mayor of Meynes, Fabrice Fournier.

“Soon an intercommunal swimming pool in Uzèsthis partnership between Meynes and the Intercommunality here, the territory displays good systems that must be encouraged. Because Gard is sorely lacking in swimming pools.
“It’s very simple, there are more in the Montpellier area than in the whole of Gard. So, we have to act. This type of system is a very good example of what needs to be done. I also think to this system of mobile pool, deployed in Nîmes some time ago“.

Of the positive results therefore, both for the beneficiary students and the host municipality. “It gets people talking about the town and the swimming pool too, of course it’s a plus for Meynes. If a young person can say to themselves “I learned to swim here, I’m going to come back with my parents this summer”, we will also have won everything. And I think it’s starting to work. This summer, we had to refuse people at reception due to overstaffing.”
