Children, you are lucky. Do you know why you are lucky? Because you have a swimming pool on your territory. A swimming pool that allows you to learn to swim, but also to your friends from other communities“, it is in these words and with a smile on our lips that Christophe Mauny, academic director of national education services (Dasen) du , presented certificates of aquatic comfort and swimming skills to CM1-CM2 children at the Meynes municipal swimming pool on Friday September 27.

HAS Meynesin this Reyné-Seydoux municipal swimming pool, these are close to 750 CP and CM2 students who are trained in aquatic ease and swimming skills. “The project is as follows: the Municipality of Meynes provides the infrastructure and speakers for the courses; the CCPG takes care of transport and payment for entry to the swimming pool. The objective being that all intercommunality students attend eight learning sessions, once in CP and a second time in CM2. Children must be able to enter college with this compulsory skill acquired“, explain the mayor of Meynes, Fabrice Fournier.

Amount of this device €55,000 per year raised by the CCPG. “It’s a cost, certainly, but a life is priceless. In any case, no municipal swimming pool of this size is intended to be profitable“, adds the councilor, supported by Pierre Prat. More generally, in terms of aquatic learning, Uzège-Pont du Gard appears to be a “good student”, Christophe Mauny insisted.

Soon an intercommunal swimming pool in Uzèsthis partnership between Meynes and the Intercommunality here, the territory displays good systems that must be encouraged. Because Gard is sorely lacking in swimming pools.

“It’s very simple, there are more in the Montpellier area than in the whole of Gard. So, we have to act. This type of system is a very good example of what needs to be done. I also think to this system of mobile pool, deployed in Nîmes some time ago“.

The Meynes swimming pool forced to refuse people, a first in 50 years

Of the positive results therefore, both for the beneficiary students and the host municipality. “It gets people talking about the town and the swimming pool too, of course it’s a plus for Meynes. If a young person can say to themselves “I learned to swim here, I’m going to come back with my parents this summer”, we will also have won everything. And I think it’s starting to work. This summer, we had to refuse people at reception due to overstaffing.”

“For this municipal swimming pool, it is the first time in 50 years. When we know that the question of its recovery arose at the start of my mandate, it is a nice revenge“, concludes the elected official with a smile.
