The PJD calls for mobilization to rehabilitate disaster areas

The Justice and Development party (PJD) called for ministerial mobilization to discuss the rehabilitation program for areas affected by the recent floods which devastated several provinces in southeastern Morocco. This program, announced by the government, has a budget of 2.5 billion dirhams. It aims to restore infrastructure and support affected populations in regions such as Tata, Errachidia, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, and several other provinces in the southeast.

Concerned about the problems of a population duly affected by climate change, the PJD parliamentary group officially requested the holding of urgent meetings of the standing committees of the House of Representatives, in order to monitor the implementation of this plan. The Ministers of Economy and Finance, Interior, Equipment and Agriculture are particularly targeted to discuss the details of the program and the measures to be taken in their respective areas.

The Finance and Economic Development Commission will have to examine, in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, the financing arrangements and the implementation timetable for this ambitious program. The role of public finances will be crucial to guarantee the smooth running of operations and coordination between the different ministries concerned.

Another meeting is planned with the Committee on the Interior, Local Authorities and Housing, in the presence of the Minister of the Interior. This meeting will focus on the immediate actions that his ministry will take to support local communities in the application of rehabilitation measures, particularly in terms of security, town planning and risk management.

The Infrastructure, Energy and Mines Committee will discuss the efforts that the Minister of Equipment and Water will put in place to restore damaged infrastructure. Roads, bridges and irrigation networks, all essential to the smooth functioning of the region, require large-scale work after the devastation caused by the floods.

At the same time, a meeting of the Productive Sectors Commission, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries and Rural Development, will focus on the measures to be taken to support agricultural activities in the affected areas. This support will include the rehabilitation of small and medium irrigated areas, as well as aid for breeders who have lost their livestock, in order to rebuild livestock and revive the agricultural economy.

Furthermore, the president of the PJD parliamentary group, Abdallah Bouanou, insisted on the need for official recognition of floods as a “natural disaster” under article 6 of law 110.14. This declaration would allow the victims to benefit from the compensation provided for by law. Bouanou highlighted the urgency of publishing this administrative decision to allow populations to quickly receive the compensation to which they are entitled.

With the arrival of the first aid and the upcoming discussions in Parliament, the objective is to put in place lasting solutions to recover these hard-hit areas, while taking into account the economic and social challenges of the region.

The provinces most affected by recent floods include Tata, Errachidia, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, Figuig, Jerada, Taroudant, Tiznit, Guelmim and Assa-Zag, where damage is significant to both infrastructure and the economy local.

As a reminder, in application of high royal instructions, the government launched a program to rehabilitate areas affected by floods in the south-east of the Kingdom, due to significant and exceptional rainfall which caused human losses and material damage in the provinces of Errachidia, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, Figuig, Jerada, Taroudant, Tata, Tiznit, Guelmim, Assa Zag.

The overall forecast budget allocated to the implementation of this program is approximately 2.5 billion dirhams (billion dirhams).

In this regard, and in accordance with the directives of King Mohammed VI, the government has mobilized all human and logistical resources to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of the affected population, and involved the various ministerial departments concerned in order to ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious program.

In accordance with this program, support and assistance will be put in place for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of damaged buildings and homes, as well as the rehabilitation of road infrastructure and telecommunications, electricity and water distribution networks. drinking water, and sanitation networks.

The program also aims to support agricultural activities in the disaster areas, in particular through the repair of small and medium-sized hydraulic structures and support for breeders who lost their herds due to floods, in order to enable the reconstitution of livestock in these areas. regions.
