SENEGAL-TURKEY-COOPERATION / Trade between Dakar and Ankara increases from 42.5 billion in 2010 to 185 billion FCA in 2023 (official) – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Oct 2 (APS) – Trade between Senegal and Turkey increased from 42.5 billion CFA francs in 2010 to 185 billion CFA francs in 2023, with a peak of 261 billion in 2022, said Monday, Khare Diouf, Secretary General of the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs.

“These figures demonstrate the desire to achieve the objective of bringing this volume to 500 billion FCFA in the coming years,” Mr. Diouf said during a meeting with a Turkish delegation, led by Burhanettin Duran, Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, coupled with the holding of political consultations between the two countries at the 3rd session.

“This visit, he said, is part of the well-established dynamic of consolidation of relations of friendship, trust and fruitful partnership which unite our two countries. It coincides with the holding of the 3rd session of political consultations between the two countries.”

According to him, this visit also aims to prepare for the first visit of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, to Türkiye, on October 31, 2024.

Several topics relating to trade, bilateral political relations, military cooperation, industry, defense and security as well as in the areas of trade, economy and industry were discussed at the during this meeting.

The area of ​​development and social affairs, cooperation in consular areas and migration were also on the menu as were the agreements to be signed as part of the upcoming visit of the President of the Republic of Senegal to Turkey.

Khare Diouf recalled that Senegalese-Turkish cooperation dates back to 1962. “Notable progress has been made, particularly in recent years thanks to the exploitation of strong potential, in a win-win framework, and the commitment of the Turkish government. to support Senegal’s development efforts,” he stressed.

He praised the “richness of a legal framework bringing together several agreements and protocols in the areas of economy, trade, industry, education, agriculture and security”.

Furthermore, he insisted on the need to work to increase the volume of foreign direct investments (FDI), to encourage more relocation of Turkish companies to Senegal and to promote the financing of projects with strong social impact, intended to serve as a basis for achieving sustainable development goals.
