Tensions in the Middle East: security around embassies in Belgium threatened?

As the conflict in the Middle East intensifies, the question of the security of embassies in Belgium arises. If no visible reinforcement has been put in place for the moment, the authorities assure that vigilance is required.

Belgium is currently at terrorist threat level 3, meaning that an attack is considered “serious, possible and probable“. This level already implies increased vigilance and reinforced security measures around sensitive sites, including embassies.

Despite tensions in the Middle East, no additional security measures have been put in place around the Israeli embassy in Uccle, nor around Jewish places of worship. These sites already benefit from significant protection provided by local and federal police, as well as Israeli security.

No upgrade to level 4 at the moment

The move to threat level 4, which corresponds to an “imminent” threat, is not envisaged at the moment. OCAM (Coordinating Body for Threat Analysis) continues to monitor the situation closely and will adapt security measures if necessary.
