Kaolack, Oct 2 (APS) – The central zone of Senegal, which brings together four administrative regions, presents numerous security vulnerability threats, due to its demographics and its crossroads location, noted Mohamadou Moctar Watt, governor of the Kaolack region (center).

The head of the regional executive proceeded, on Wednesday, to the official launch of the Territorial Communities, Defense, Security and Peace (PCTDSP) program of the Center for Advanced Defense and Security Studies (CHEDS) for the benefit of the four regions of the central zone of country, Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack and Kaffrine.

He stressed that the security profile of this area shows the concerns posed by livestock theft, trafficking of all kinds including drugs, illicit medicines, smuggling of goods, road accidents in which motorcycles are regularly involved. ”Jakarta”, the transport of dangerous or even highly flammable products, among others.

“Far from being exhaustive, this list gives us an idea of ​​the threats weighing on the peace of populations in our territories eloquently,” argued the governor, according to whom, a response to these security threats must be part of a scheme favoring proximity.

“This is the place to initiate a global reflection on security problems involving administrative and territorial authorities, those responsible for the defense and security forces and representatives of the community,” he indicated.

According to him, this diversity of profiles and the inclusive nature of the reflection demonstrate the relevance of a community response to security problems.

Faced with the rise in insecurity which has finally spread to the deep countryside, the local executive cannot wallow in passivity, waiting for a replacement of State representatives.

”We are called to play an active local role in the new field of action, particularly participation in the construction of security units. As do many mayors who participate in the construction of brigades or gendarmerie stations, first aid and fire stations as well as their equipment, the fight against incivility and disturbances to public peace, the management of disputes between neighborhood etc.”, he noted.
