The sagacity of a VTC driver brings down the small team of thieves. Two men have just been sentenced to five months in prison and imprisoned for stealing objects from vehicles parked in Saint-Germain-en-Laye () and the surrounding area.

The case begins on September 27, 2024, in the early hours of the morning. It’s 4 o’clock, a VTC comes to pick up customers, avenue Carnotin Saint-Germain-en-Laye. When he arrives, the driver sees two individuals loaded with heavy bags of indescribable jumble, including tools. Suspicious. He refuses the race and informs the police.

The first VTC shadows the second

The duo simultaneously orders a second VTCwho will take care of his two strange customers before the arrival of the police. But the first road professional does not give up. He follows his colleague as far as Hauts-de-Seine. On the road, he meets a police patrol to whom he explains everything.

The officials checked the passengers of the VTC, found in particular in possession of the identity card of a Saint-German resident whose car was robbed during the night. These homeless people aged 23 and 24 are placed in police custody in La Garenne-.

Five victims in total

Alerted to this arrest, the investigators of Saint-Germain-en-Laye are beginning investigations. Thanks to cross-checking work on the items seized from the two suspects, they identified four other potential victims, to whom the police returned the stolen personal effects.

During their auditionsthe two men claimed to have bought the stolen items from a stranger in the Parc de la Villette, before coming to Saint-Germain to sleep in a squat at an imprecise address. “Fancisical”, say the investigators.

“Resurgence of caravan thefts”

“These police custody took place in a context of resurgence caravan thefts and vehicle damage in the Saint-Germain-en-Laye district,” notes a police source.

A permanent ban from the territory was also pronounced during the judgment rendered on September 30, 2024.
