Deterioration in the Mediterranean on Thursday: heavy rain and thunderstorms expected

The start of the week was rather pleasant in the Mediterranean with a sometimes summery feeling in PACA and Corsica. This Thursday a clear deterioration is expected and will bring significant accumulations of rain locally.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected Thursday

A depression will deepen in the Gulf of Lion this Thursday morning and is already bringing sustained rain between the Alpes-Maritimes and Corsica. These rains will sometimes be accompanied by thunderstorms with high rainfall intensities in the south of Corsica, mainly when the depression passes over the island of beauty. We expect 30 and 80 mm, locally 100 mm on the reliefs, which could lead to runoff and local flooding. We are in weather alert for this rainy episode in Corsica.

Improvement Friday with strong mistral and tramontane

A few storms will still be possible on Thursday from Mercantour to the Corsican Mountains, but without aggravating nature. If the sun returns to the rest of the Mediterranean rim, it will be thanks to the mistral and the tramontane which will blow strongly, with gusts of up to 80 or 90 km/h.

The weekend then promises to be very calm and mild before a further deterioration, probably more serious, at the start of next week with some signals showing the potential for a Mediterranean episode.
