Storm Isaac: Switzerland on alert

The authorities are warning of bad weather in several cantons, including Fribourg, between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. According to MétéoSwiss, intense precipitation and continuous rain are expected.

From this Tuesday, the weather forecast forecasts heavy cloud cover with widespread precipitation coming from the west. In the evening and night from Tuesday to Wednesday, more intense precipitation is expected, particularly on the northern slopes of the central and western Alps as well as on the Central Plateau. To protect themselves, individuals can implement a few simple measures. “We can ensure that the water evacuation routes are not obstructed,” explains Marc Choffet, expert in natural hazard prevention at ECAB.

Landslides

MeteoSwiss warns that, mainly in French-speaking Switzerland, usually dry streams and ditches could fill with water, which could lead to landslides. The institute also refers to flood warnings issued by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The reason for this alert is the storm “Isaac”.
