The public inquiry relating to the request for environmental authorization for the railway development project south of Bordeaux (AFSB) took place from July 15 to August 28, 2024. The commission of inquiry has issued a favorable opinion in underlinedant the quality of the file produced. L’public inquiry recorded more than 2,800 contributions. In total, nearly 13,000 people consulted the documents made available, demonstrating the interest of girondins for this project.

The prefect takes note of the favorable opinion rendered by the commission of inquiry, subject to the lifting of the reservations issued by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion concerning the European Mink (Mustela lutreola) and the European Otter (Luther Luther).

It also adds recommendations to its opinion. This mainly concerns the continuation of consultation with local residents and communities on certain developments and the management of the construction and operation phases in terms of limiting nuisances, particularly noise.

The prefect will now obtain the opinion of the departmental commission for the environment and health and technological risks on the draft environmental authorization order, which includes the requirements relating to the request for exemption from the strict protection of European Otter and European Mink. At the end, it will render its decision on the environmental authorization request for the AFSB project. This decision will be published on the website state services in Gironde.

« This project is an essential component of the Grands Projets du Sud-Ouest (GPSO) program which will consist of the construction of new high-speed rail lines between Bordeaux, Toulouse and Dax. The planned developments will make rail traffic to the south of Bordeaux more fluid and improve daily transport for Girondins.
