The Brussels public prosecutor’s office initially requested a dismissal of the case in this case but the council chamber ultimately referred it to the court of first instance. This Tuesday’s hearing is purely formal, it is planned in order to set a timetable for exchanging conclusions and request additional duties, it is up to us. The debates will take place in a few months.

The facts allegedly took place on July 26, 2021 following a meal organized at the author’s home and after the departure of one of their colleagues, according to the victim who filed a complaint as a civil party. The latter would have found herself in a daze possibly due to the ingestion of a substance without her knowledge, she explains. Driving that evening, she had moderated her alcohol consumption to be able to return home but, however, she would have felt unwell just before leaving the scene. There would have followed a black-out from where she will emerge later, naked and in the defendant’s bed. The young woman claims to have been raped several times that night.

Midam, for his part, contests the facts, both the rapes and the administration of an illicit substance. The latter indicating that the victim had drunk a lot that night.
