“It has become difficult to control”: a Coupe de match ends in a general brawl in Allier

The referee was forced to shorten the match on Sunday due to a brawl on the pitch which was allegedly caused by “racist remarks” made against Saint-Yorre coach Le Vernet. A version refuted by the president of Dompierre-sur-Besbre.

Everything came together for a great afternoon around football on Sunday in the area. But the Coupe de match, between Saint-Yorre-Le Vernet and Dompierre-sur-Besbre, degenerated.

A general brawl forced the referee (who issued a whopping five red cards) to shorten the match as play was called off. The reasons for this scuffle (which caused no injuries and did not give rise to any criminal complaints) differ depending on the parties. One thing is certain, the match was rough, physical, sometimes bordering on the limit.

Coach throws shoes at fans

“It was very tense from the start,” assures Léopold Godard, the president of Dompierre. The last straw?? “The Saint-Yorre coach threw his shoes at Dompierre supporters. And afterward, it became difficult to control. »

“I would have buried you alive on the pitch”: a referee insulted and threatened with death during a football match in Allier

In the other camp, the president of Saint-Yorre-Le Vernet, Philippe Eugène, regrets this gesture but recalls that it is the consequence of “racist remarks” which would have been made against his coach by opposing supporters . What his Dompierroi counterpart denies outright.
In short, two different versions of the facts. Where the presidents find themselves is on the sad image given on Sunday. The party was ruined…

The two teams eliminated from the competition?

It remains to be seen what the consequences will be for the two clubs, after this match was stopped before the final whistle (Dompierre then led 1-2). The Auvergne Football League should decide quickly and could quite simply eliminate the two teams at this stage of the competition (in the 4th round).

“Since the start of the season, every Sunday, there has been a problem, a fight, death threats against a referee (…) We cannot continue like this”

guy poitevin (president of the Allier District)

Whatever the case, this umpteenth case of violence on the Bourbonnais pitches worries the president of the Allier football district, Guy Poitevin. “Since the start of the season, every Sunday, there has been a problem, a fight, death threats against a referee, problems with young people, from the U11 category onwards?! We have increased the financial sanctions, if necessary we will increase the sporting sanctions. We can’t continue like this. »
