Elected RN of the first constituency of the Ardennes, aged 22, Flavien Termet announces that he will end his mandate this Monday “for personal medical reasons”.
“If I am no longer able to fight body and soul (…) for this hope of a better future for our nation, then I must give way,” he wrote in a message posted on Facebook.
A by-election must be held “within three months” to designate his successor.
He was the youngest member of the new legislature that emerged from the polls at the beginning of the summer. Flavien Termet, 22, is forced to give up his job due to health concerns. “For personal medical reasons, I am unable to fully exercise this mandate”writes in a message posted on Facebook the elected National Rally of the first constituency of the Ardennes. “Resigning today breaks my heart”he adds, affirming that he is not “more able to fight body and soul” and take “this painful decision” because it is there “forced”.
Because he was the youngest member of the Bourbon Palace, he stood at the Assembly podium during the secret ballot for the perch. The sequence was widely commented on, because many left-wing elected officials then refused to shake his hand. Originally from Brittany, this young RN employee took over the constituency won two years earlier by the Macronist Lionel Vuibert in July. His election was the subject of an appeal before the Constitutional Council, filed by another former unsuccessful candidate, Juliette de Causans (labeled “various center”), noted since for having retouched her photos in the senatorial and European elections.
“This resignation is not abandonment”he insists, specifying that the RN “will present a candidate in the upcoming election”. He says he has “all confidence” in his party to nominate a candidate and asks his voters “to trust him too”. “I know that my successor will help you and defend you with the same vigor as I would have liked to do”he concludes. In accordance with article 178 of the Electoral Code, this partial vote must now be held “within three months”.
