Prime Minister Sonko pleads for “expanding” ASECNA to other African countries

The Senegalese Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, pleaded, Friday September 27 in Dakar, for “the expansion” of the Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) to other states on the continent, considering that it represents “a major instrument of integration”

”We must all continue to work towards [ASECNA] expansion to other African states. 19 States is already good, soon certainly a twentieth, but we consider that all African States should and could be part of ASECNA,” he declared.

Ousmane Sonko was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 74th session of the committee of ministers of the Agency for Air Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA).

According to him, ‘ASECNA is not only a major integration instrument, but also and above all the technical arm of States for the harmonious development of the air transport sector.’

“The solidarity on which ASECNA was built over the years has been strengthened”, allowing it to become “a globally recognized center of excellence”, he welcomed.

For Ousmane Sonko, “ASECNA has above all been able to adapt to very rapid developments in the field of civil aviation”, which has allowed the “community institution” to be “at the forefront of technology in all areas.”

However, he notes, “today more than yesterday it will need this capacity to adapt in view of the profound changes that are looming in the future.”

Believing that “the progress made has been facilitated by the existence of a major asset for all our countries in the field of air transport”, Mr. Sonko stressed that “this asset is called ASECNA, which is a formidable tool for cooperation created 65 years ago, 260 kilometers from here, in Saint-Louis, Senegal”.
