A rivalry between rival gangs that has lasted for decades, with its share of deaths and injuries. Tuesday October 1, 2024 must open in Paris the trial of four men for violence in meetings with weaponsduring a brawl that took place between the districts of Riquet and in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The original victim is also on trial for tampering with the crime scene. The hearing is scheduled to last four days.

Two shootings in 20 minutes

It was on September 11, 2021 that gunshots rang out on rue Riquet. Arriving on site, emergency services noticed that there were two injured people. The first, aged 23, was shot in the legthe second is simply scratched. There, there were no shell casings, but a little further away, the police discovered traces of 9 mm ammunition.

An investigation is then opened. It turns out that on the day of the incident, two shootings broke out in the neighborhood within 20 minutes of each other. The context: an endless rivalry between young people from the Riquet district and the Cambrai district. A judicial investigation is opened for attempted murder.

Thanks to video surveillance and identification of telephone lines, the alleged perpetrators of the shootings are identified. Two were arrested in Épinay-sur-Seine in Seine-Saint-Denis. New twist: the shooting victim is also seen taking a gun on the ground and hide it in a building hall.

A rivalry that caused drama

The rivalry between the Riquet and Cambrai districts has lasted since the early 2000s. The causes, very vague, have become a simple pretext. In 2017, Boubou, 17 years old, was killed by a bullet in the chest during a giant brawl between the two gangs. A suspect was identified, but was ultimately acquitted by the Assize Court in March 2023.
