Cycling Worlds: the Belgian delegation leaves Zurich with six medals, no country does better

World Cycling Championships. Here are the secrets behind Lotte Kopecky’s victory!

Evenepoel failed to add a seventh medal on Sunday, finishing fifth in the road race. With these six medals, Belgian cyclists match the performances of the two previous editions, in 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland, and in 2022 in Wollongong, Australia.

Belgium has never obtained more than six medals at the Worlds. However, it is difficult to compare eras, as the championship program has evolved considerably over the decades and has expanded widely. It was only from 2022, when medals were awarded to the hopefuls on the women’s side (their race taking place at the same time as that of the elites), that the current program was set. In 2019, the mixed team relay was introduced, replacing the men’s and women’s team time trials.

Remco Evenepoel lost his calm during the Worlds: “It was a very special race”

Six medals in para-cycling also

Belgian para cycling riders, who took part in their World Championships in Zurich, also won six medals. The world titles of Ewoud Vromant in the C2 time trial and Maxime Hordies in the H1 road race were among the highlights.
