Coop Alina: BDO Canada Limited appointed trustee

BDO Canada Limited has been appointed trustee in the bankruptcy of Coopérative Alina de Rimouski and will be responsible for the sale of its assets.

Interested people can submit submissions, until October 24 at 1:30 p.m., for
the purchase of three separate lots.

The first concerns the commercial condominium where the grocery store is located, located at 99 rue Saint-Germain Ouest.

The second contains in particular all the equipment such as cold rooms, refrigerators, refrigerated tables, the pizza oven, a six-ring cooker, a cash register and optical readers, office and restaurant furniture, computers as well as than a safe.

For the third, it includes all dry, refrigerated, frozen grocery inventory, natural products, vitamins, supplements, cosmetics and alcoholic beverages.

Assets can be sold in lots or in bulk. The trustee will open submissions after October 24 at 1:30 p.m.

Debts of $2.7 million

Accumulating debts of $2.7 million, including $416,000 to its suppliers, the Alina Cooperative confirmed its bankruptcy on August 29, during the extraordinary general meeting convened by the board of directors.

The 25 employees of the largest health grocery store in Eastern Quebec, one of the oldest of its kind in Quebec, lost their jobs.

Its managers mentioned the departure of the bakery Le Farinographe, which rented part of the premises, the drop in traffic, the difficult economic context and the pandemic also explain the setbacks of Coop Alina.

Several options were considered to save the assets, but none could repay all of the debts.
