The territorial contract between the Department of Gard and the municipality of Nîmes for financing the pedestrianization of the Porte de France sector has been adopted.
The Department of Gard participates in the sustainable development of the departmental territory as well as in improving the quality of life of the people of Gard. As such, a grant request was submitted to this community a year ago, concerning the pedestrianization of the Porte de France sector.
This project provides for the closure to traffic and the requalification of Rues Porte de France, Jean Reboul, Alexandre Ducros, St Francois, St Ursule and Place Moncalm. The project includes pedestrianization under the Porte de France monument. This perimeter will be regulated as a pedestrian zone like the Ecusson and closed by retractable bollards equipped with access control. The development also provides for the creation of green spaces, notably Place Montcalm.
The objectives are the preservation and enhancement of the Porte de France monument, the pedestrianization of public spaces and expansion of the city center but also the inclusion of the sector in the extension of the Crest with qualitative architectural and landscaping treatment.
The standing committee of the Departmental Council validated, just before the summer, a maximum subsidy of 173,617.50 euros for the pedestrianization of the Porte de France sector, the eligible cost of which is set at 1,160,428.50 euros excluding tax.
