We take our happiness where we can. In 2022, Julia Roberts and George Clooney graced us with this “Ticket to Paradise”, a slightly old school romantic comedy, nice without being unforgettable, but which at least allowed us to see them again on the big screen. At 56 years old in November, Julia has been very discreet in recent years. Nothing to sink your teeth into except this comedy and a distressing science fiction thriller, “The World After Us”, for Netflix. George, 63 years old, was due to return to theaters this month, in the company of a certain Brad Pitt, in the action comedy “Wolves”, but the film, which recounts the explosive meeting between two “cleaners of crime scenes” (reminiscent more of “Léon” than of service vouchers), will ultimately land directly on Apple TV+.
And for the future, it’s not much better. The Oscar-winning star of “Erin Brockovich” is expected in “Little Bee”, recounting the meeting between a young Nigerian and an English couple on vacation, and in the drama “After the hunt”. But the first project is at a standstill, and the second, directed by Luca Guadagnino (“Call me by your name”), belongs to auteur cinema, not necessarily the most accessible. Same thing for George Clooney, who has just starred in the new film by Noah Baumbach, the husband of Greta Gerwig, king of American independent cinema.

Work with friends
Nevertheless, there is hope of seeing the two stars together again in… “Ocean’s Fourteen”, the continuation of the adventures of Danny Ocean and his gang, including Brad Pitt. The Deadline site has just announced that Brad and George have already signed. But we learned at the same time that Steven Soderbergh will not return to directing. The project was entrusted to Edward Berger, noticed with the new version of “A l’Ouest, rien de nouveau”.
Afterwards, let’s not shy away from our pleasure. “Ticket to Paradise” is a perfectly harmless comedy that is watchable. Imagine. Bali, the blue sea, the sunset in the distance, the lush forests adjoining fine sandy beaches, and on the deckchairs next door, Julia and George sipping an iced daiquiri. There you are, you too have taken your ticket to paradise. Except that in fact, their characters do nothing but argue and the filming took place in Australia, in Queensland, in the middle of the covid pandemic.
The friendship between the two stars is not feigned and is felt in the film as when we have the chance to meet them in promo. “The first time I saw you, you were sitting at the hotel reception, where you had been telling jokes for 5 hours,” the actor reminded Julia in front of us, when the film came out. “The understanding was direct. It’s lucky that it worked out between us. It’s a joy to work with friends. »
“Ticket to Paradise”, September 26, 8:50 p.m., RTL-TVI.
