Two women suspected of stealing money from elderly people were arrested in Morges and Moudon. They committed their fraud by pretending to be police officers.

The two suspects, French women passing through Switzerland aged 19 and 22, admitted to the facts, the Vaud police said in a press release on Thursday. They were arrested on 16 and 17 September following reports made by their victims.

Seniors are the main target of these scammers, who do not hesitate to pretend to be a police officer, but also a family member or a bank advisor. The criminals tell their victim that there is an anomaly with their account or bank card and that fraudulent withdrawals have been made, and that the bank card must therefore be changed.

During the call, the card code is requested or retrieved in a deceptive manner. The scammer also explains to the victim that a colleague will come and collect the card from their home, explains the Vaud police.
