Cahors. The AOC cyclists in Cantal

The road cycling section of the Avenir Omnisport club in Cahors met for four days in Cantal, in Saint-Flour from Thursday September 5 to Sunday September 8. Accommodation was at the Ruisselet farm in Mazerat, in the commune of Roffiac, which welcomed the cyclists and their partners.

On Friday, the morning mist did not prevent our brave cyclists from getting on their bikes to reach the summits of the Col de la Griffoul, a magnificent pass which allows you to reach the Buron de la Combe de la Saure by a passable road, then to continue with the Col de Prat de Bouc from Murat before the descent into the Albepierre valley to reach the plateau la Planèze. It is a high basalt plateau formed by the lava flows of the Cantal volcano. Its spaces as far as the eye can see are punctuated by many villages such as Paulhac, Cussac, Coltines, Tanavelle… 88 km covered by our cyclists.

On Saturday morning, in mixed weather where the sun played hide-and-seek among the many clouds announcing wind and storms, the cyclists followed the circuit passing through Andelat, Coren, Mentières, the Garabit viaduct. This railway viaduct allows the crossing of the Truyère gorges. Then passing the Granvall dam which is a hydroelectric dam located on the Truyère between the municipalities of Fridefont and Lavastrie. More than 75 km were covered with a steep gradient. At 4 p.m., as soon as the athletes returned to the lodge, a deluge fell on the department with strong winds and gusts. On Sunday morning, a great lull in the region allowed our athletes to visit the Margeride forest, the Brezons valley with its magnificent waterfall of the Saut de la Truite, and the town of Chaudes-Aïgues, a spa resort renowned since Antiquity for its hot waters. A magnificent outing for the AOC.
