An unmissable event every year-end at Nimes (Gard), the Harvest Fair took place in the capital city of the department of Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 September 2024. And this year again, thousands of party-goers took part.


67 licenses suspended

The day after all these festivities, the Prefecture draws up a complete report of the “security operations” and the interventions of the police forces. And the least we can say is that the gendarmes and police officers have not been idle.

3,200 people were tested for alcohol in the city and 150narcotics. “A significant number of drivers under the influence of alcohol” was noted by the National Police services.

16 people were caught while driving under the influence of drugs.

In 72 hours, no less than 67 permits have been removed from which 50 for particularly high alcohol levels. One of the highest levels exceeded 2 grams. 13 others were caught after consuming narcotics. Two drivers They were both taking drugs and alcohol consumption.

Unannounced checks

Already very regularly checked throughout the rest of the year by the Prefecture and the Police services, the restaurants and other drinking establishments of Nîmes were also targeted during these festive days in the Gard city, by unannounced checksday and night. This time, 126 places welcoming the public were checked (bodegas, cafes, grocery stores, restaurants, snack bars, etc.).

Among the 37 food establishments inspectednone of them presented “serious breaches of the food safety“.

A correct balance sheet

89 drinking establishments were also inspected by the Gard National Police services. Here, the results are not the same. 29 of them did not comply with the legislation. Some situations could have led to administrative closures of establishments.

With the influx of huge numbers of onlookers who came mainly to party, the city of Nîmes and the police services have stepped up sound level checks. Several dozen establishments have been checked. 58 of them were fined.

“The results of the Féria des Vendanges were not marked by major events, the strong presence of alcohol caused a significant number of incidents, mobilizing the emergency and security services present until late at night,” the Prefecture concluded in a press release.
