Éric Duhaime notably proposed that natural gas be recognized as a “transition energy” in the Act mainly to put an end to the exploration and production of hydrocarbons as well as the public financing of these activities, adopted by Quebec in 2022.

In the eyes of the chief, the law should be amended to “allow the extraction of natural gas with strict safety and environmental standards in regions where there is social acceptability”, he explained at the end. of a symposium on energy issues.

In this sense, Mr. Duhaime proposes to relaunch the LNG Quebec project, aimed at developing a gas liquefaction complex and an export terminal in Saguenay, but also to develop other liquefied natural gas projects with the aim of export this resource, particularly to Europe.

Recall that the LNG Quebec project, which would have allowed the export of natural gas produced in Western Canada, was buried by the government of François Legault after unfavorable environmental reports. In March, its promoter, Ruby River Capital, demanded US$20 billion in damages.

At the same time, the Conservative leader said he was in favor of the construction of new hydroelectric dams.

“With the inevitable avenue of massive electrification of transportation by the next decade, it is essential to opt for a rational and visionary attitude in order to meet the future energy demand of Quebecers, and this at competitive costs, while by ensuring our energy autonomy”, he pleaded.
