The organizers of Montpellier of the’InsaneFestival, in Apt, in the Vauclusecut short the closing night on Sunday because of the rape of two women committed during the weekend. This 2023 edition was to take place on Thursday 10, Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August.
During these four days, one day more than the previous musical editions, on the rural site of the Plan d’eau, 1 kilometer north of Apt, in the Luberon, some 54,000 festival-goers attended the concerts and the many events. At the top of the poster, Paul Kalkbrenner, Angèle, Mandragora, Sofiane Pamart and Dr Peacock seduced the fans.
The organizers agreed to stop the festival before the end of the last evening, after being asked by the prefecture of Vaucluse and the City of Apt, noting that, “this kind of behavior is terrible and unacceptable”. The mayor of Apt said she was “shocked by this sexual violence”.
A gesture of solidarity
By prematurely interrupting the festival, the company AMD wanted to a gesture of solidarity for the two young women: “These victims were taken care of immediately by our teams and by security”. According to our information, they would have named the authors on the site: “the festival teams did their best to identify the people involved, exclude them and take them to the gendarmerie, so that justice is done”.
Supervised by the Avignon prosecutor’s office, the investigation did not drag out, since the two alleged rapists were arrested, placed in custody by the company of gendarmerie de Pertuis and referred for indictment.
In Apt since 2018
The world of Insane has become the unmissable event of the summer. The adventure started at the Avignon exhibition center by presenting an underground universe, mixing techno, trance and hard-music. The festival then continued its ascent at the Toulouse Expo Park. After an empty year in 2020 and a year in reduced format in 2021, 2022 marked the big comeback by offering three days of festivities around the Apt lake. Where the 2023 edition took place.
