The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) opened an investigation on Monday after a person was shot dead during an intervention by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
Around 11 a.m. Monday morning, SQ police were called to intervene in Clarendon, Outaouais, for a family dispute.
Prior to their arrival, they reportedly applied for firearms checks, which turned out to be negative, the BEI said in a statement.
Once there, witnesses would have indicated that the person was in the shed at the back of the house. When the police came to meet her, she allegedly pointed a gun at them.
“A police officer would have drawn his firearm and would have fired in the direction of the person who fell inside the shed”, can we read in the press release.
A security perimeter was quickly erected while waiting for the intervention group. It was shortly after 2:15 p.m., after all the necessary checks had been carried out, that the body of the person was found in the shed.
“Five BEI investigators have been tasked with investigating the circumstances of the intervention. Given the circumstances of the event, the support services of a police force were required, namely the Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM)”, mentioned the BEI, specifying that the investigation into the events that occurred before the police intervened had also been entrusted to the SPVM.
