At the end of December, near the Place des Basses marches, which has been redeveloped since last summer, work to develop the future commercial space began. This new equipment should be delivered in the fall and it will change the appearance of this central sector promised to become the true town center of the commune of Paulx.

A bakery to start

For the bakery, it's confirmed, the municipality convinced a young couple to come and work in Paulx. This business dedicated to breads, pastries and snacks will occupy a fully equipped premises of 250 m2. It will benefit from double access, on the parking side and on the departmental road side (RD 13), which will also be bordered by a pedestrian and cycle path up to the Route de la Limouzinière.

For the adjoining cell, initially planned to accommodate a tobacco press bar, it's another matter… The municipality had contacted Antoine and Valentin Ménard to implement this project, but the two young people preferred to stay on the current site, the former gas station, managed by their mother, Bénédicte Ménard.

“They had a proposal, but they made their decision,” explains the mayor, Christian Gauthier. The municipal council, for its part, decided to continue this major project of the mandate. We had to revise our copy, but we will find traders. »

Looking for attractive activities

The municipality has the possibility of transforming the 240 m2 cell into one, two or three units of 80 m2 for rent. The work is planned without interior fittings to be able to implement activities without particular constraints.

The objective is to install traders bringing attractiveness to the site. We want to create social ties, a gathering place to have life in this town center, which no longer exists in Paulx.

In order to allow producers to shelter for the monthly market and associations to have a meeting place, a hall will be built as an extension of the commercial cells. Green spaces will be created to encourage residents to relax on this site.

A budget of €882,000 excluding tax for this tranche

The construction of this first commercial phase requires a budget of €882,000 excluding tax. Several subsidies will help finance the operation: €100,000 from the State via the provision of equipment to rural areas; €40,000 from the European Union through the Leader fund; €42,000 from the regional territory contract. The municipality is also awaiting a response to the subsidy request requested from the Department as part of the AMI village system.

The municipality must subsequently launch the construction of two other commercial cells (54 and 55 m2), from which the beauty salon and the hairdressing salon could benefit.

The municipality decided to go as far as obtaining the building permit, transfer the land and transfer the permits to construct their building. It is now premature to say that this will come to an end.

Discussions are underway to see how the traders can move forward with their project.

Town hall: work at the end of the year?

Last touch to finalize the creation of the town center: the move of the town hall to the old presbytery. This involves the rehabilitation of the existing building and an extension to house the municipal council room.

“The final draft was validated by elected officials. We are working on the building permit and financing studies. At best and depending on the budget, the work could begin at the end of 2025 for a period of fourteen months,” announces the mayor.
