A medical center and a trompe-l'oeil project, businesses to be taken over: things are happening in this small town in Haute-Loire

A year ago, Élodie and Lysiane Trevet took over the Castel pharmacy; it should finalize its installation by moving its activity to the former bar of the business, in 2026. For her part, Delphine who had taken over the establishment, is ceasing her activity. Just like the bar, the Central hotel is also looking for a buyer after the retirement of Anne-Marie Maurin. However, new activities have emerged over the past year: Florence Ferriol, chocolatier, has set up her laboratory and her L'Edelweiss boutique in Maisonnettes within the family business Les Marmottes; while a bicycle rental and repair shop has opened in the heart of the village.
In 2024, there were four births: Adéline Roméas, Sakina and Isaac Bertrand, without forgetting Ambre, the daughter of the town hall secretary. Three marriages have been registered: Thibault Petit and Manon Riffard, Lionel Ferriol and Laura Guilhot, Tristan Roche and Élodie Trevet.

The elected officials of the municipal council gathered around Christian Chorliet, mayor of the town; a community that prides itself on its dynamism.

Furthermore, within the municipal council, Hilary Riche was appointed deputy following the departure of Jean-Marc Bergeon.

A trompe-l'oeil for the horse fair

Fay remains a dynamic central location in the heart of a population area of 2,300 people. It is based on this positive observation and healthy finances that Christian Chorliet then discussed the projects, such as continuing to change municipal lighting to install LEDs. Furthermore, maintenance work on the Mathias room will continue in order to restore its climb.

Last year, the horse fair was a great success despite the demands of veterinary services. More than 40 volunteers came to help. To mark this annual event, a trompe-l'oeil will be carried out this year on the accommodation of Trois-, before October 20, the date of the next edition.

Water and sanitation. Since this year, these services have been entrusted to the SGEV (Velay Water Management Union). Given the changing climate and the maintenance work to be carried out, the gradual increase in the price of water becomes a necessary condition for maintaining this resource. The first work on sanitation will be carried out this year. Rainwater management will remain the responsibility of the municipality.

Medical home. The building of the medical center will be called the “Medical Hive” (in memory of the honey house of Vincent Faure, former owner). The professionals should settle in next April. This project of €995,000 excluding tax (building purchase included) was carried out thanks to the Region, the State (DETR, Green Fund), the Department, Leader funding, the Community of municipalities, without forgetting the financial gesture of local municipalities . The health center occupies two levels of 200 m² out of the existing four. New professionals are interested in the project, the town hall therefore wishes to set up two additional offices in the 80 m² still available; the cost of rehabilitation and insulation amounts to €46,440 excluding tax, the town hall having submitted requests for financial aid.

The population was very attentive to the presentation of the projects for 2025.

Thermal renovations. Another project is underway, that of the thermal renovation of three apartments for private housing, but also a meeting room for health professionals attached to a studio for future medical interns or replacements. This file was selected as a village of the future project. The cost of the work amounts to €230,000 excluding tax.

Craft zone and building zone. Last year, the town hall worked with the AB2R design office on the establishment of the building zone below the gendarmerie. The development of this area will continue in 2025, the objective being to set up “tiny houses” at the request of young people who want to settle in the town. Demand for this future area, which is managed by the Community of Municipalities, is already significant since three companies want to establish themselves on the first 4,000 m² plot of land.

Rehabilitation of paths and bridges following floods. The estimate produced by AB2R with the support of Engineer 43 evaluates the reconstruction work on the paths, bridges and sanitation lagoon of Fay at €830,000.

The priorities for action for this quarter, apart from that of Epage for the ice jams, are the small Maisonnettes bridge which no longer exists, the dike of the sanitation lagoon which has partly collapsed and the Mathias bridge.

Gendarmerie. The thermal rehabilitation project, at the request of Colonel Christophe Marboutin, head of the Haute- gendarmerie group, was prepared at the beginning of 2024 for an amount estimated at €300,000 excluding tax. It was postponed in agreement with the prefecture and the administrative department of the gendarmerie with completion in several stages, from 2026.

Present were the deputy Laurent Wauquiez, senator Laurent Duplomb, Michel Arcis vice-president of the Community of Communes Mézenc Loire Meygal, Philippe Delabre, mayor of Saint-Front, departmental councilor Nathalie Rousset, major Bertrand, gendarme Picart and lieutenant Frédéric Menut.
