Mauritania continues to play the balancing act with its two major North African neighbors. After the signing, Thursday in Rabat, with Morocco of a memorandum of understanding relating to the strengthening of the partnership in electricity and renewable energies, Mauritania set course for Algeria.
The Director General of the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company, Ismaïl Abdel Fattah, met on Sunday January 26 in Algiers with the CEO of Sonatrach (National Society for Research, Production, Transport, Transformation and Marketing of hydrocarbons), Rachid Hachichi.
“Discussions between the two parties focused on the identification of investment opportunities and the implementation of strategic projects of mutual interest. These projects cover the entire value chain of the hydrocarbon sector, ranging from exploration and production to marketing,” indicates the Algerian group in a press release relayed by local media.
During the 9th session of the high-level bilateral joint commission, held in September 2022 in Nouakchott, Algeria committed to building a gas pipeline connecting the two countries.
-During the meeting on December 20, 2024 in Casablanca, King Mohammed VI and President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani committed “to developing strategic projects for the connection between the two neighboring countries, and to coordinating their contributions within the framework of royal initiatives in Africa, particularly the African-Atlantic gas pipeline and the initiative aimed at promoting access of the Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean,” the royal cabinet announced in a press release.
