SENEGAL-RELIGIONS / Recitation of the Koran: the ”Omarian” mosque rewards four students – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Jan 26 (APS) – The mosque of the family of El Hadji Omar Tall (between 1794 and 1797-1864) in Dakar presented distinctions on Saturday to the winners of its annual Quran recitation competition, Mahmoud Tall, Dame Lamine Diop, Mamoudou Baal and Abdourahmane Diallo.

The two winners mentioned first are students of the Serigne-Samba-Diagne Koranic school, the others are residents of the Ben Nour school.

”We were fascinated by the clarity and beauty of their recitation, their perfect mastery of the Quran, the rules and techniques of recitation. They accomplished this exercise without the slightest fault. This is why we decided to honor them by awarding them the mention ‘very good”, said Koranic master Alioune Touré, one of the four members of the competition jury.

The jury certified the skills of the winners, who received their diploma in the presence of Iman Thierno Saïdou Tall and other dignitaries from the family of El Hadj Omar Tall.

The imam congratulated the winners and thanked their parents, their Koranic teachers and the directors of the schools from which they came.

”Because of the deep love that binds parents to their children, it is never easy to entrust a child to another person to take care of their education. But by the grace of God, a day like this is a real reward for you,” Thierno Saïdou Tall told the parents.

He wanted to recall the advantages that children sent to Koranic schools, as well as their parents, can derive from them.
