The official procedure for the draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), Morocco 2025, has been revealed ahead of the ceremony scheduled for Monday, January 27 at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat, at 7:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT /8:00 p.m. Cairo time).
The 24 qualified teams will be divided into six groups of four teams each. Morocco, as host country, will automatically be placed at the head of Group A.
Ivory Coast, the reigning African champion, will also be positioned at the top of one of the other five groups, being placed in Pot 1.
The remaining teams will be classified in pots 1 to 4, in accordance with their position in the FIFA rankings of December 19, 2024, according to the following distribution:
- Hat 1: Morocco (A1), Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and Ivory Coast
- Hat 2: Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo and Burkina Faso
- Hat 3: Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea and Benin
- Hat 4: Mozambique, Comoros, Tanzania, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Botswana
Draw procedure:
-- The Morocco ball will be drawn first from Hat 1 and placed in position A1.
- The balls from Hat 4 will then be drawn in order to fill positions A4, B4, C4, D4, E4 and F4.
- The balls in Hat 3 will be drawn in a similar manner to occupy positions A3, B3, C3, D3, E3 and F3.
- The balls in Hat 2 will follow, assigned to positions A2, B2, C2, D2, E2 and F2.
- Finally, the remaining balls from Hat 1 (except Morocco) will be drawn to complete positions B1, C1, D1, E1 and F1.
The top two teams from each group, as well as the four best third-placed teams, will qualify for the knockout stages of the TotalEnergies 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
