Solidarity! This is the common thread of the Hamois municipality. Eric Legrand, mayor of the city, reminded this once again, Monday January 20, during the ceremony of his wishes to the population. “The municipal council has made its action towards responsible and effective solidarity one of its primary objectives.

Social and solidarity actions

And to note on social policies, namely “towards youth, our elders, in favor of education, solidarity, entertainment, culture or sport” : “Many actions have been perpetuated, are now well established, others created. The success of our leisure centers without accommodation cannot be denied. In 2024, nearly 200 children will have attended them during the holidays or on Wednesdays.

Without forgetting the Emile Luciani space labeled Social Life Space: “The actors of this living space offer numerous activities, open well beyond the Eastern district, residents' actions for residents, such as making and sharing meals, or organizing evenings which allow everyone to have a good time.

Among the solidarity actions, the mayor did not fail to recall the “Citizen’s License” operation which allowed ten people to obtain a driving license or even the seniors’ meal, the end-of-year package, and vouchers from Hamois merchants which were also intended for them. Without forgetting the various activities and workshops offered by the municipal social action center (CCAS) such as the wellness lounge, the pink walk, etc.

The living environment, a priority

And after solidarity, another priority axis of the city: the living environment! “Whether it results from routine maintenance, recently implemented maintenance and renovation plans, or large-scale investments, it aggregates all energies. Urban cleanliness and the beautification of the city are regularly highlighted by our fellow citizens. It was a commitment. It’s a great satisfaction for everyone!” explains the mayor.

He then recalled some actions carried out such as that of a municipal councilor who listed the public benches and renovated them, the green brigade, the planting of trees, the renovation of municipal housing…. ” Other work was entrusted to local companies. I am thinking of the complete and long-awaited renovation of the magnificent wrought iron door of the town hall, of the lanterns which highlight it, saved by ironworker artisans, of that of roads and sidewalks no less awaited as in the Lamartine streets , du Moulin or even Charles Gronier, replacing or adding missing street lamps here or there…

Heritage renovated or being renovated

Added to all this are the major projects completed this year such as the rehabilitation of the water tower, the pumping station, the redevelopment of the city center, the renovation and extension of the video protection system, the continuation of switching to LED for public lighting, work to bury electrical networks in certain streets in the city center, etc.

Other work also allowing the maintenance of buildings and Hamois heritage is in progress as recalled by Eric Legrand, in particular the organ of the abbey church which is currently being renovated. “The work will last 6 to 8 months. I would like to point out that the collection of donations launched via the Heritage Foundation and offering the right to tax reduction is still open and will remain open until the end of the work.

Without forgetting the project to rehabilitate the village hall, the house for all (in progress) with the creation of a 400m covered hall2 which will connect the two rooms (Maison pour tous and village hall, editor's note) or the renovation project of the Notre-Dame Abbey which will begin on February 17, for a period of three years.

And finally the stadium renovation project and the creation of pétanque courts which for the moment is the subject of a search for financial partners. “Our stadium is home to football and pétanque clubs which suffer from the degraded state of their facilities. The development of pétanque courts, the upgrading of football fields, the creation of a training ground and various renovation works have been the subject of substantial subsidy agreements from the department but not yet other partners. The same goes for the renovation of the stands, locker rooms and footballers' club house. We are awaiting feedback from these partners in order to be able to position ourselves on a precise work schedule. We are moving forward in concert with the two clubs concerned and are working on phasing the project in order to move forward as best as possible, first on the play areas.

Upcoming projects

The mayor did not fail to recall other ongoing files such as the new gendarmerie, the installation of a PRM footbridge in Délicourt park, the transformation of the former Texti store into a reception area for solidarity associations, i.e. the Restos du coeur, the Red Cross and the Social Grocery of the Est Somme social center, but also the launch of the study to secure and enhance the remains of the town's castle…

Without forgetting the “Vallée de Somme, Ideal Valley” project led by the Department which will allow the reopening of the Somme canal to pleasure boating and the creation of a cycle route which will pass through the town.
