A second clipper, this time much stronger, is preparing to enter the province and could generate gusts of up to 100 km/h and intense squalls on Monday. Forecasts.
A second clipper, from a series of three, will not go unnoticed: it has the metropolitan region in its sights and its violent winds could cause significant power outages and reduced visibility at times. It will first enter the province through the northwest gates during the night from Sunday to Monday and should reach the metropolitan region at the end of the afternoon, just before rush hour.
Stunning bursts
At the time of writing, models are forecasting gusts of up to 100 km/h on Monday in Montérégie and the metropolitan region. At the same time, snow showers could occur at times. The latter, driven by powerful winds, could considerably reduce visibility. Squalls are possible.
Moreover, we speak of squalls when an intense snow shower, driven by strong winds, reduces visibility to less than 400 meters for less than an hour. On Monday, the conditions will be ripe for the formation of such a phenomenon.

Enough to damage the electricity network
The passage of the clipper could cause numerous power outages in Quebec on Monday, including in Montreal. Remember that on December 12, 2024, squalls shook the metropolitan region and caused the temporary interruption of the REM. More than 20,000 customers were without power. The gusts forecast for Monday would be even more powerful.
Up to 30 cm in places
Rare are the times when a clipper generates so much snow. Whoever sets their sights on Monday could drop significant accumulations by Tuesday. Up to 15 cm could fall in the Laurentians and the Laurentides wildlife reserve would be the most affected region: up to 30 cm could accumulate in places, complicating travel on Route 175. As for the metropolitan region, the accumulations should not exceed 5 cm. Tuesday will provide a short respite before the arrival of a third clipper in five days on Wednesday.
