The first Liberal MP to announce that he would run for the party leadership, Chandra Arya, will ultimately not be part of the race: he says he was rejected by the PLC.

The MP for Nepean, Ontario, indicated in a post on X that he had received information that he could not be a candidate.
“Today I was informed by the Liberal Party of Canada that I will not be allowed to enter the leadership race,” he wrote. While I await their official communication, I am cautiously considering my next actions.”
“This decision raises important questions about the legitimacy of this leadership race and, by extension, the legitimacy of Canada’s next prime minister,” he added.
Mr. Arya’s candidacy had made waves within the party, particularly around the fact that he does not know how to speak French.
-Several MPs had indicated that the next leader of their party should speak the language of Molière, including the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Pascale St-Onge, who had affirmed earlier this month that her candidacy “is not up to par. image of our party.
“I think he is someone who has discredited himself, unfortunately, for the leadership race,” she said in an interview on the show The JoustJanuary 14.
