ESCALADE – In 2024, Seine-Saint-Denis saw a sharp increase in homicides linked to drug trafficking, with 15 deaths compared to four in 2023, and 73 attempted homicides

Seine-Saint-Denis recorded a dramatic increase in intentional homicides linked to drug trafficking in 2024, with three times more victims than in 2023, according to the prosecutor's office. During the formal back-to-school hearing, prosecutor Eric Mathais denounced “violence with uninhibited use of extremely dangerous weapons” and deplored the impact of drug trafficking on the territory.

“Trafficking, primarily in narcotics, the underground economy and dirty money structure the territory, ruin the republican pact and put the department in mourning,” he declared in court, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin.

Fifteen deaths in 2024 compared to four in 2023

In 2024, fifteen people lost their lives in “narchomicides” in Seine-Saint-Denis, compared to four the previous year, according to figures from the prosecution. Among these crimes, three were committed during a single weekend in , a town located about fifteen kilometers northeast of . In May, two shootings in less than 48 hours claimed the lives of three men and injured four others. In July, three young men were also killed by firearms in two separate shootings in Bobigny.
