A sign of a revival of the profession of executioner in Cantal, a person from this profession was recruited by the Mauriac town hall.
Fripoutin Tabasse is a happy man. He has just been recruited as a professional executioner in the small town of Mauriac in Cantal. “I’m so honored. I will do my best and I hope that the population will be happy with my services,” he reacted. For several weeks, the town had been seeking to revitalize its city center with activities. Furthermore, it was necessary to find someone to regulate petty crime (badly parked cars, half-closed shutters, dog droppings on the sidewalk, etc.). “We hope it will both restore order and allow for some entertainment.” People need activities,” explained the mayor.
The boom of executioners in rural life
Over the last ten years, the number of executioners in Cantal has increased from 12 to 187. We are witnessing a real boom. “The population is fond of executions with axes, swords or quartering. It must be said that in the low season, we get very bored,” says a farmer from Cézallier. The executioners allowed a real revival in the small towns. “Last time, I witnessed a beheading for breaking the speed limit. The executioner did it very well, and he even joked. It was a lot of fun,” says a delighted resident. At this rate, Cantal could have one executioner per commune by 2030. This sudden fashion could now spread to Haute-Loire or even Combrailles, where the locals still execute everyone themselves, without however relying on a any law.
