Around 11 a.m. Thursday, Sûreté du Québec police officers were called to a residence in Saint-Anselme, in Bellechasse, for an event that occurred during the night.

“Projectiles appearing to come from a firearm were reported at a residence and a vehicle parked in the yard,” indicates Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the SQ.

According to information from Soleil, the owner of the targeted residence was known to police circles.

No one was injured in the event. Investigators from the Major Crimes Division are in charge of the investigation.

Expertises will be carried out during the day to shed light on the events. No suspects have been arrested.

“Not random”

For the moment, the Sûreté du Québec cannot link this event to organized crime or to the shots fired last November 28 in the O mini prix business.

This is still the second case of armed violence in a few weeks in this usually calm village. The two events occurred approximately 4 kilometers apart.

Contacted by The Sun, the mayor of Saint-Anselme, Yves Turgeon, did not hide his dismay.

“My arms are falling off. Once again, it’s astonishing. There is not a lot of information, but there is enough to make us feel a little shaken,” reacts the mayor.

Yves Turgeon assures that the gunshots were not random. “It’s not a coincidence. The fact remains that we don’t know any more.”

The worry continues

According to him, the population has been fearful since the tragic death of Justine Hertemann in November.

“We have been trying to reassure for two months. Everyone will turn around. Those who had managed to relax a little, it will worry them again,” he laments.

On social networks, many citizens of Saint-Anselme reacted. “It’s really made it stressful and dangerous,” says one resident.

Mayor Yves Turgeon would like to have more answers to offer his citizens, but he lets the police do their job. “The police are carrying out a serious investigation,” he assures.
