The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs (MIAAE) wanted to clarify, on Friday, information relayed by certain media reporting on a supposed debt of Senegal towards the World Health Organization (WHO).

In a statement relayed by the African news agency (APA), the MIAAE categorically denied these allegations, claiming that “Senegal has no arrears to pay the WHO for contributions from the Member States”. The Senegalese authorities have detailed that the country’s statutory contributions for the periods 2020-2023 and 2024-2025, respectively estimated at more than 56 million and 48 million CFA francs, were fully regulated by transfers made on May 6 and 31, 2024 via the Treasury.

This development comes after press information according to which the Senegalese state is liable for more than 100 million CFA francs to the WHO. “These statements are inaccurate,” said the ministry, led by Yassine Fall. Miaae also recalled that Senegal remains in good standing with regard to the organization, which allows it to fully enjoy its rights, in particular the right to vote and the eligibility within the WHO bodies. In this dynamic, Senegal had also presented a candidate during the elections for the post of regional director of WHO for Africa, organized in August 2024.
