Just over three months after the first welding, the future T10 tram line continues its progress. This Friday, January 24, the Metropolis of Lyon was making a first stage of the work stage in Saint-Fons.
The first welding was carried out on October 7 and just over three months after the start of work, the future T10 tram line continues its progress. As a reminder, the latter must link Vénissieux station to the Halle Tony Garnier, in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon, including the town of Saint-Fons, in 25 minutes. And while this future tram line must be functional in the first half of 2026, the metropolis of Lyon and its president Bruno Bernard have produced a first stage of the site this Friday, January 24 in Saint-Fons where a center will be located in particular rejective and maintenance.

Maintenance building and large washing area
With a budget of 295 million euros, including financial support from the State of 15.8 million euros (by call for projects), this vast project therefore provides for the creation of a storage center and Maintenance of 26,000 m2 between Saint-Fons and Lyon to meet the needs of rolling equipment. On site, the future building takes shape and will eventually accommodate 30 oars 43 meters long. The earthworks started in July, specifies the Sytral, followed by civil engineering works in August and the frame last November. The work on the future railway was launched in early January.
In the immediate vicinity, a large washing area is also under construction, as well as a future service station building in which machines will fill the tram sand pits (which guarantee the grip of the wheels). Washing machines of tram will also be born. The latter will use 85 % of recycled waters and the rest will be rainwater. The water storage means deployed on site amount to 1,000 m3 and everything will be managed directly on the site.
-“Fou operations”
Upstream of the site, the Metropolis of Lyon still praised the result of the arrangements carried out at the Laurent Bonnevay ring road, the work of which was pre-built in the first half of 2024, then set up last August. “These are really crazy operations”said Bruno Bernard, before adding, “If you can do this type of operations, it is above all thanks to the Lyonnais model” (The Metropolis of Lyon being the owner of the Device Boulevard since its creation in 2015: Editor's note). A tunnel 4.50 meters high, 13.50 meters wide and 4,100 tonnes now passes under the peripheral boulevard so that the trams can pass.
Pedestrians and cycle paths have also been partly created. They will be accompanied by green spaces all around the site. Many trees and shrubs, as well as a flowery meadow will be born. For the deputy mayor of Saint-Fons, Lanouar Sghaier, this future tram line T10 is a “grand moment.” And conclude: “Finally, the town of Saint-Fons is attached to the Lyon metropolis.” The Metropolis of Lyon already estimates that 22,000 daily travelers will borrow the future T10 tram line.
